EPAM Ukraine Donates $100,000 to the Fund and Opens up Educational Opportunities for Children

The war has taken away the childhood of many Ukrainian children, with more than 5,000 losing their parents to date and hundreds more being wounded. Since our founding, Children of Heroes has provided these children with comprehensive support that is funded by our donors and partners. We’re proud to announce that as part of EPAM’s ongoing support, earlier this month they donated $100,000 to the Fund to provide Ukrainian children with educational assistance, warm clothing, medical and psychological support and long-term assistance.

One of the children cared for by the Fund, Katya, an 8-year-old girl from Bucha, lost her father to a rocket strike that hit their home. To make matters worse, her mother has been battling cancer for seventeen years, adding to the stress and struggle the family faced. Now homeless and without their father and husband by their side, they must face yet another enemy: the cold winter.

Katya’s story is just one of many from the 1,300+ children that the Fund cares for.

“Unfortunately, the phrase ‘children of the war’ is becoming a common term in Ukraine. Thousands of children have had their childhood taken from them – losing family members, their homes, their schools, and hundreds losing their lives. The sadness and tragedy are beyond words. At EPAM, we stand with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We have a long history of supporting education programs and the children in our communities. However, today, due to the war, we understand that Ukraine’s children need more of our assistance and need it urgently. That is why we are supporting the ‘Children of Heroes’ fund.” said Natalia Koliadko, director of talent management at EPAM Ukraine.

Ukrainian Charitable Initiative Promises to Help Build a Strong and Healthy Society

The Fund’s efforts will be directed towards developing a strong and healthy Ukrainian society. Key priorities include: urgent humanitarian and psychological support, ongoing assistance, providing for children’s education and development, funding health programs, coordinating socialization programs and providing mentorship. Ultimately, the Fund will support children into their adulthood by providing them with long-term assistance and guidance to find internships and establish a career when they grow up. It addresses the unique needs of every child individually, no matter the circumstances.

As a Fund contributor and partner, EPAM is:

• Provide financial support of $100,000 for the Warmth to Children initiative, whose goal is to provide children with warm clothes, heaters and firewood for their homes during the cold Ukrainian winter season
• Coordinate collecting articles of clothing at the EPAM offices throughout the month of December (1-22)
• Supporting a charity fundraising fair to support additional raising of funds.
• Providing access to the Company’s educational initiatives. Provide access to the company’s educational initiatives. In November, 25 children had an opportunity to join EPAM’s eKids program to receive hands-on learning on the basics of programming. High school-aged children will be able to study relevant subjects as part of their pre-Junior program. The company will also host several “Girls in Tech” sessions to teach young girls about the benefits of a career in IT.Launch a fundraiser to provide additional support to Children of Heroes

EPAM is committed to supporting Ukraine. Since the war began, EPAM’s top priority has been ensuring the safety of its Ukrainian teammates, their families, and the comprehensive humanitarian support of Ukraine. To date, the total amount of EPAM’s humanitarian aid, medical response, and protection for EPAMers and Ukrainians in general (including fundraising campaigns) exceeds ₴90 million ($2.45 million USD).

Preparations for the winter season during the war are also continuing in Ukraine. Children of Heroes relies on the generous donations from our donors, especially during the cold winter months, when Ukrainian orphans require warm clothes, heaters and firewood for their homes.

The Children of Heroes Charity Fund supports children who have lost one or both parents to the war in Ukraine. The Fund’s mission is to help children orphaned by the war in Ukraine find their path in life, despite the loss and trauma they have faced, and one day realize their full potential. It supports a variety of long-term programs, funded by its partners and donors, that will give children the best chance at life.
