Before the war, eight-year-old Katya enjoyed a carefree life – she was fond of photography and dreamed of one day becoming a model. On February 24^th, 2022 her life changed drastically. When the Russian invaders came to the city of Bucha where Katya and her family lived, they took the life of her father and destroyed everything she knew and loved.

Katya’s father was killed by a rocket attack in their own home. Olena, Katya’s mother who has been battling cancer for 17 years, was left alone to raise her two children. She only had this to say:

“I hoped that cancer was the worst thing that can happen in anyone’s life, but I was wrong. The Russian “liberators” came and destroyed our lives.”
