You can contribute cash, stocks, or, with some providers, crypto, and may be eligible for a tax deduction when you make your contribution. The funds can then be used over time to recommend grants to eligible 501(c)(3) public charities like Children of Heroes.
How do DAFs work?
You fund your account, and those funds wait there until you decide where they go. When you're ready to give, you recommend a grant to a charity like Children of Heroes – your sponsor reviews it and sends the grant on your behalf. You can support many charities over time, all from a single account.
Can I grant to a Ukraine-focused charity from my US DAF?
Yes. Your grant goes to our US 501(c)(3), Children of Heroes of Ukraine Foundation – so there’s no equivalency determination or international-grant step. We then fund our programs for children in Ukraine.
Is my DAF grant tax-deductible?
You received your deduction when you funded your DAF, so there’s nothing more to claim on a grant. We’re a 501(c)(3) in good standing. For your situation, check with your tax advisor.
