Volodymyr and Dmytro

Dmytro, the father of Volodymyr and Dmytro, joined the defense of Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion. Because he could rarely stay in touch, the boys constantly kept their phones nearby, afraid to miss a call or message from him.

On June 22, 2023, the family spoke with Dmytro for the last time. His final words to his sons were: “Boys, listen to your mom.” Soon after, they received devastating news – their father was gone.

In March 2024, the mother of the boys, Hanna, learned about the Children of Heroes Charity Fund and applied for support.

Since then, the Fund has helped Volodymyr and Dmytro in many areas of their lives. The boys received medical support, including expensive tests, consultations with specialists, medication, and long-term neurological and psychiatric treatment. Psychological support also became an important part of their recovery.

The Fund additionally supported the boys with education. Volodymyr and Dmytro attended extra lessons in English, mathematics, and Ukrainian language, which helped them feel more confident and improve at school.

The family also received humanitarian aid, including clothing, food, hygiene products, gadgets for studying, and a charging station.

One of the most emotional moments for the boys became something very simple – birthday phone calls from their family helper.

“For two years in a row, our family helper has called the boys early in the morning to wish them a happy birthday. They dreamed that someone besides me would congratulate them. It was so touching that I could not hold back my tears,” Hanna says.

Today, Volodymyr, Dmytro, and their mother continue adapting to a new reality with the support of the Children of Heroes Charity Fund.

“Children of Heroes is a light for children who have experienced an unimaginable loss. In the darkest moments, they offer support and give not only help, but hope. Their care is deep, sincere, and constant. They cannot replace parents, but they help children believe in kindness, in people, and in the possibility of a bright future again. This is a Fund with a big heart that changes lives.”
