How to Help Children in Ukraine with Children of Heroes
The Russian war in Ukraine continues, claiming hundreds of lives daily, destroying homes, crushing dreams, and taking parents away from their children. Each of us has struggles, but in this case it is a struggle for their very future. And you may be wondering how you can help the children of Ukraine.
What makes Ukrainians stay strong despite all odds?
Solidarity, mutual support and friendship: these are the traits that give them the strength not to give up. It is the mission of decent, honest people to help each other, regardless of their gender, race or nationality. Ukrainians stay strong and will always support one another. Acquaintances, neighbors and complete strangers all suddenly become comrades when the very existence of the nation itself is threatened.
Children are the most affected part of the population
War is a phenomenon that destroys our humanity, our emotions, our values and our courage. It also takes away people’s homes and possessions, their health and, tragically, their lives as well. While adults realize the scale and gravity of war, it is often difficult for children to understand.
Stress, panic and constant anxiety all have a negative impact on a child’s health and development. That is why they need comprehensive help. That’s why they need your help.
Every bit of support shows considerable solidarity for the innocent Ukrainian children who are suffering – right now
Unfortunately, thousands of children in Ukraine have already been left without parents, having lost their closest loved ones forever. They undoubtedly need our attention, our support; our compassion and warmth as many have lost their sense of purpose for learning, developing and even for life itself. It is terrible to see so many children suffering and feeling powerless. We can open our hearts to them to help ease their pain.
How can you help children in Ukraine who have lost their parents?
The Children of Heroes Charity Fund provides a diverse range of programs to directly support Ukrainian children who have lost one or both of their parents during the war. The Fund’s mission is to help the Children of Heroes overcome the loss of their loved ones and provide them with the opportunities they need to succeed. Currently, 2,200 children are under the care of the Fund, but tragically 20 new children are added to our programs each and every day.
Our areas of support:
- Emergency Assistance – evacuation and other time-sensitive issues
- Regular Assistance – primary financial aid, holiday gifts, warm clothes, shoes, training, and development tools from the Fund’s partners
- Socialization – psychological support, organization of children’s camps in Ukraine and abroad
- Live Assistance – processing additional requests from families with the help of a designated Family Helper for each family
- Education – providing learning tools and the opportunity to attend courses in foreign languages and other areas
- Mentoring and Career Guidance – assistance with university admissions, meetings with mentors, etc.
How has the Children of Heroes Charity Fund already helped children ?
Thanks to the Fund, many children have already received extensive support. They have been provided with school supplies, warm clothes and humanitarian aid. In addition, we provide many children with psychological support to help them heal from the trauma that the war has caused them.
It’s thanks to the help of donors that Children of Heroes receives the necessary resources to support the children in its care. However, the number of children who need our help is growing daily and so, too, is the need to fund and implement these life-changing programs.
With the Fund’s help, Vadym, one of the children under our care, is studying at a military academy in the United States . Thanks to the painstaking efforts of a number of staff, he received a scholarship of $200,000 to attend the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas.
Most children under the Fund’s care and their families were forced to leave their homes, towns, villages, and cities with only a small backpack and their belongings.
Education is a fundamental right and essential need for every human being. Many Ukrainian children were unable to receive a quality education because their schools were destroyed by shelling, and they were forced to leave their homes and lacked access to learning tools, heat, electricity, etc.
Thanks to the Children of Heroes Charity Fund , the children in our care have had the opportunity to study foreign languages on various educational platforms. Some have received STEM education while others are engaged in artistic activities and creative clubs. More than 300 children have received a laptop, tablet or smartphone for remote learning. The Fund also organizes camps in Switzerland and other countries abroad to provide children with an opportunity to relax as well as to heal.
These programs are just a small part of the Fund’s activities and achievements. If you would like to learn more, our monthly reports are available here .
The Fund can only become more effective and support more children with your help. Your donations can help change the lives of children.
“The Fund’s goal is to help every child to realize their full potential. In order to accomplish this, first of all, we cover each family’s urgent and basic needs so that they have the strength to one day realize their hopes and dreams. Our specialists communicate weekly with the families, identify their requirements and make every effort to meet them. If the request is unique, they develop problem-solving strategies and integrate it into the regular activities of the Fund”, says Anna Homenko, Head of the Implementation Team here at the Fund.
About the Children of Heroes Charity Fund
The Children of Heroes Charity Fund was established during the first weeks of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Its founders are Ukrainian entrepreneurs and public figures – a team of caring, like-minded patriots united by the idea of helping the most vulnerable during this war: the children who have lost their parents.
No one can give these children back their lost parents, but we can give them the support and help they would have received from them if their lives had not been cut short by Russia. That is why the Fund covers Ukrainians’ most urgent needs and also has a long-term strategic vision: to help children realize their personal and professional potential and become shining examples of Ukraine and its contributions to the global community. It is our contribution to building a stable and healthy Ukrainian society.
