Mykyta
Mykyta’s family joined Children of Heroes in 2023. For them, the Fund’s support became a lifeline during the hardest time – after the death of their father, who had been their closest person and an example of courage and strength.
The war first entered their lives back in 2014, when the family was forced to leave their home in Donetsk and move to Dnipro. In the new city, Mykyta continued playing hockey but faced many challenges – bullying, mockery, and misunderstanding. He says that all of this only strengthened his character.
In early 2023, the family was struck by tragedy once again: their father was killed in the war. For Mykyta, it was the greatest loss, as his dad had taught him everything in life and had always been there to support him. He didn’t often say the words “I love you” – instead, he showed his feelings through actions. When Mykyta struggled with his hockey shots, his father bought a stick for himself, rushed home from work, and practiced together with his son. And when skating was difficult for Mykyta, his father learned to skate from scratch so he could set an example for him.
Despite the grief and exhaustion, Mykyta fulfilled his father’s dream. He moved to the Czech Republic, where he now plays hockey and studies to become a sports masseur. He is only 18, but he has already lived abroad for a year, found someone he loves, and once again discovered meaning in life.
Mykyta is convinced: even after losing the dearest person, you must never give up. You need to keep going, because those who are no longer with us remain in our hearts forever, watching over our victories.
