Support children who have lost their parents due to the war

Who we are and what we do

Children of Heroes Charity Fund provides comprehensive, long-term support to children who have lost one or both parents due to the war. We have offices in Ukraine, the United States, and the Netherlands.

Our mission is to honor the memory of fallen Heroes by supporting their children. We strive to create a nurturing environment where they can build a bright future for themselves and for our country.

We support every child until the age of 18 and continue providing assistance as they enter adulthood. We help them through psychological support and socialization, education and development, humanitarian aid, medical care, case management, and the work of our Family Helpers.

Support a child’s steps to recovery

Individual counseling, group therapy, and socialization help children who have lost one or both parents gradually regain emotional balance, a sense of safety, and trust in the world. The Steps to Recovery reflect only part of the needs. Make a donation in an amount that feels right for you, and we will direct it where it will have the greatest impact.

Here’s how the Steps to Recovery work:
  • step 1 Choose any item from the list – it will appear on a progress bar. You can add as many as you like.
  • step 2 As you add items, a progress bar will display the recommended donation amount. Prefer to set your own amount? No problem – you can manually enter it in the dedicated field.
  • step 3 Once ready, choose how you’d like to give: make a one-time donation or become a monthly supporter. We’re committed to caring for each child until they turn 18 and beyond – that’s why regular donations are so important.

Varia’s story: a path toward healing

In 2023, Varia lost her father due to the war. It was a profound shock for both her and her mother, Olena. Varia struggled deeply with the loss, and her mother’s emotional strain only increased her anxiety and sense of insecurity.

The following year, a missile strike destroyed their home. After that, Varia became even more tense and withdrawn. Realizing they could no longer cope alone, the family turned to the Fund for professional support.

Varia experienced anxiety, emotional instability, and difficulties in communication. The Fund’s psychologists worked to stabilize her condition and help her adjust to new life circumstances.

Through regular counseling sessions, Varia gradually began to regain a sense of safety. She became more open, made new friends, and her anxiety decreased. She now feels comfortable being hugged again – something that once felt overwhelming.

A warm and trusting relationship with her psychologist became a source of stability. The specialist’s guidance helped both Varia and Olena better understand each other’s emotional needs and support one another.

Today, Varia is slowly returning to age-appropriate interests: drawing, watching gaming streams, and playing Roblox. Her greatest wish is simple – to live in peace and calm, without war or fear.

Varia is one of more than 15,000 children supported by the Fund who need psychological and other types of assistance: financial, legal, educational, and more. Your donation helps provide children with the support they need to cope with loss, regain hope, and experience the joy of childhood again.
