How to Recognise and Respond to Emotional Distress in Children: Expert Discussion under EBRD Community Initiative in London
Children of Heroes and EBRD hosted a panel discussion in London, bringing together experts to discuss how to recognize emotional distress in children and provide timely psychological support. The event also featured an exhibition of drawings by children supported by the Fund.
Timely support for children who have experienced loss, trauma, or prolonged stress is critical to their emotional recovery and long-term development. This is why experts in psychology, psychiatry, and trauma-informed care came together to share practical approaches and real-world experience.
On April 15, 2026, at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) headquarters in London, the Children of Heroes Charity Fund (“Fund”), together with partners, held a panel discussion titled How to Support a Child in a Timely Way: Recognising Signs of Emotional Distress and Taking Action. Practical Guidance from Experts. The discussion was organised for staff and invited guests as part of fundraising efforts for the Children of Heroes Charity Fund under the EBRD Community Initiative.
The discussion brought together the expertise of the Fund’s psychologists, international specialists, and the wider professional community to explore the early identification of emotional challenges in children. The focus was on recognising warning signs, talking to children about difficult experiences, and taking action to ensure that support is both timely and effective.
Particular attention was given to the practical experience of Children of Heroes Charity Fund psychologists, who work daily with children who have lost parents due to the war, helping them rebuild a sense of safety, stability, and trust in the world.
The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration. The partnership under the EBRD Community Initiative created opportunities for more structured support for children and families and supported the integration of trauma-informed approaches into corporate environments and wider communities.
An exhibition of drawings by children supported by the Fund was also on display at EBRD during the same period. Through their artwork, the children shared their emotions, experiences, and perspectives, offering a deeper understanding of their needs.
The Children of Heroes Charity Fund team, together with partners, continues to work to ensure that every child who has experienced loss receives timely, professional support.
