A partnership that connects and brings joy: New Year gifts from Austria for the Children of Heroes
Our work is possible thanks to the support of Ukrainians around the world. Cooperation with the diaspora is essential. It helps children who have lost one or both parents due to the war feel and know that they are not alone, with the Ukrainian community standing close, no matter the distance.
Children of Heroes has launched a partnership with the Ukrainian Women’s Union in Austria, Union Ukrainischer Frauen. Within this cooperation, we signed a memorandum to unite our efforts around one shared goal: to support children who have experienced loss and to help them regain a sense of care, safety, and steady ground.
We first met during the international European conference of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women Organizations titled The Voice of Ukrainian Women Worldwide for Ukraine: Advocacy, Truth, Unity. That meeting soon grew into our first joint initiative. We are sincerely grateful to the Ukrainian Women’s Union in Austria for joining the project «Christmas magic comes in many forms».
Thanks to Raisa Nazarenko, who collected gifts together with colleagues, and with the support of Trayport, children received New Year presents. This care and attention meant a great deal, especially in the days leading up to the holidays.
The Ukrainian Women’s Union carries a long history and strong values. The organisation was founded in 1920 in Vienna by Ukrainian women in the diaspora. Over decades, the Union has supported the Ukrainian community, promoted Ukrainian culture internationally, and helped those in need. Today, that tradition of responsibility and service continues through the commitment of its members and volunteers.
We would also like to express special gratitude to Svitlana Savelyeva, Head of the Ukrainian Women’s Union in Austria, for her kindness, sensitivity, and genuine big heart.
Thank you to the Ukrainian Women’s Union in Austria, its leadership, active members, and partners for your support and for carrying forward the powerful legacy of Ukrainian women’s solidarity.
